rafa_navarro911smlD. Rafael Navarro Cortés, the new priest, will take possession of our parish at the  1 p.m. Mass. D. Rafael Navarro is 31 years old, from the city of Granada, and has spent this last year helping out in parishes in Ronda. He is a teacher, licensed by the University of Granada. He studied at the Diocesan Seminary of Málaga and was ordained last June 25 by our Bishop, D. Jesús Catalá.

D. Rafael most of his youth connected to the religious community of San Juan de Dios in Granada. Thus, our new priest is perfectly aware of the life and work of this great saint whose spiritual awakening began in Gaucín, who gave his life for the poor and sick.

All the parishioners are urged to attend this Mass to receive warmly and to welcome D. Rafael at the beginning of his new work in the service of the Christians of Gaucín.

Mars811smlTomorrow night, 27 August, 2011, Mars will be at a distance of 34.649.589 millon kilometers. The next time Mars will come this close will be in the year 2287. This close encounter is due to the gravity of Jupiter which is affecting the orbit of Mars, and has not happened in the past 5,000 years.

Mars will be near the moon and will be seen as a very bright object in the skies, even as bright as the moon. Gaucín is an especially good place to observe this phenomenon as we can see the Milky Way here.
