La Fructuosa hotel is changing ownership. The new season of the restaurant will start on 03 April with a special menu for the day!

Some words from the previous owners, Luis and Jesús.......

Dear Friends:

La Fructuosa is going to continue into the future without us.  We have sold our dream to Daniel and Catherine, whom we are sure will give it a great push forward and make some wonderfull changes.  We wish for the three of them (Catherine, Daniel and La Fructuosa) the very best!

We wish to thank everybody for the support that you have given La Fructuosa these eighteen years, since our opening in June of 1999.  To all who have enjoyed the tranquility of the hotel or the dishes in our restaurant, thank you.  Now, as La Fructuosa achieves maturity, we know that Catherine and Daniel will continue to offer moments that are unforgettable.  Again, thank you.

And from the new owners, Catherine and Daniel.....

Last year, during a visit of Art Gaucin, we fell in love with La Fructuosa and with Gaucin. We decided to start a new chapter of our life, to acquire the hotel and restaurant and to make of Gaucin our home for the years to come.

We have spent most of our adult lives as expatriates in different European countries. Catherine is a sculptor and ceramist ( More recently, Daniel ran a successful B&B in an old house in the centre of Brussels where Catherine also had her studio and gallery.

Prior to that, between 2004 and 2007, we sailed between France and Australia on a yacht.

We will for sure add Catherine’s art touches to La Fructuosa and we will seek to maintain the charm, the quality and the hospitality set as standards here by Jesus, Luis and their dedicated staff. Also, this year we are pleased to wor kwith a new chef, Mariano Ruiz.  He is wel lknown in the area for his excellent work for many years in La Molienda, a fine restaurant in Benalauría.  He will bring to La Fructuosa all of his experience and talent, continuing to offer fine food, inspired by the traditions of Andalusia, Spain and the  Mediterranean region.

It will be our pleasure to host you soon.

Platero and co

Words from the owners, Hellen and Barry.
"Dining al fresco on our private terrace whilst enjoying the spectacular views towards the Guadiaro Valley and the surrounding mountains of the Serranía de Ronda. We serve you on the terrace when the weather permits it, summer and winter. On chilly evenings and the cooler winter days we will make sure you are warm and comfortable in the dining area of our charming little restaurant.

We offer lunch and dinner for a maximum of 5 to 6 tables and have capacity for a maximum of 20 guests at a time; this is how we can offer you a personal service in friendly surroundings where you will feel at home."

"The New Rustic Kitchen; where everything is prepared on the premises, with a mix of traditional and modern techniques, using local products well presented, sometimes with a twist, but never with too much fuss and where the dish is always recognizable as food.

The weekly changing menu has an Andalusian touch and offers a variety of local and seasonal produce from the market gardens of the Ronda mountain range, like its goats’ cheeses, mushrooms, Iberian pork, organic wines, cherries and chestnuts. On average it consists of 8 starters, 6 main courses and about 5 homemade desserts. Click the link to have a look at our sample menu.

The wine list is varied, and we take special care in offering you natural and organic wines from small family run bodegas located here in the area (DO Sierras de Málaga, Ronda). Many of the wines on offer can also be ordered by the glass."

Walks around Gaucin by Patrick Elvin, a new guide to walking in the Gaucin area, has been published and is available on all Amazon platforms.
An essential guide for those visiting Gaucin, there are walks to suit all levels of fitness ranging from 1 hour to 6 hours and include three of the author's favourite walks in the Serrania de Ronda.
This long-awaited book is the result of 20 years of walking in the countryside around this iconic Southern Andalucian village, during which time Patrick Elvin has acquired an extensive knowledge of the locality. The book (black and white version) contains detailed instructions, maps, photographs, profiles and GPS waymarks for all of the walks. The Gaucin area includes the valleys of the Genal and Guadiaro rivers as well as the Sierra del Hacho, Gaucin's own 1000 metre mountain. With a foreword by the Mayor of Gaucin, there is also general information about the history and geography of the village.

A representative of the Diputatcion de Malaga's Medio Ambiente y Promoción del Territorio, Marina Bravo, presented the new edition of the "Active Tourism Guide to the Serrania de Ronda". The guide covers many forms of active tourism including hiking, cycling, birdwatching and geocashing. Copies of the guide are available on request at the Ayuntamiento de Gaucin. Marina Bravo is seen in the photo with the Mayor of Gaucin, Pedro Godino.

Gaucin was more reminiscent of an alpine village rather than one in southern Spain after a recent fall of more than 20cm of snow blanketed the pueblo:
